We get a version of this question every single week: "My kid is turning 6 — what bounce house should I rent?" The honest answer is that there are really only three questions that matter, and once you've answered them, the right inflatable is almost obvious. Here's how we walk parents through it.
Question 1: How many kids, and what ages?
A standard 13x13 bouncer comfortably fits 6–8 kids ages 5–10 at one time. If you've got more than 10 kids who'll want to bounce simultaneously, or a wide age range (4-year-olds AND 10-year-olds at the same party), a combo unit (bouncer + slide + obstacles) is almost always the right call. It splits the kids across activities so no single area gets congested.
For ages 3 and under, look for a smaller toddler bouncer with lower walls and softer features. They're not just smaller — they're designed differently.
Question 2: What's your setup space?
Measure your yard before you even start browsing. Most bouncers need a setup footprint of about 15x15 with 3 feet of clearance on every side and 12 feet of vertical clearance (watch out for low-hanging branches and power lines). A combo unit usually needs about 18x20.
- Grass: ideal — we stake the inflatable down with heavy-duty stakes through ground tarps
- Pavement or driveway: also fine — we use weighted sandbags (minimum 250 lbs per anchor)
- Indoor (gym, community center): great option for cold-weather parties or backup if weather turns
- Wood deck: usually not workable — no good anchoring
Don't forget the power outlet
Every inflatable runs on a blower that needs a 110V outlet within 100 feet of the setup. If you're at a park or remote venue, we can bring a generator — just mention it during the quote.
Question 3: What's the vibe?
A 6-year-old's princess-themed birthday and a 9-year-old's superhero party have very different rental sweet spots. A pink Color Castle or themed combo unit reads way different than a Champion Obstacle Course or a Big Wave Dual Lane Water Slide.
For most birthday parties, the call is between a standard bouncer ($) and a combo with a small slide ($$). The combo is usually worth the upgrade if you have more than 8 kids or a wide age range — the slide alone keeps older kids occupied while younger ones bounce.
Quick decision tree
- 15 or fewer kids, ages 3–6: Standard bouncer
- 26–12 kids, mixed ages: Combo unit with slide
- 312+ kids, broad age range: Combo + a second activity (carnival games, mechanical bull for tweens, etc.)
- 4Summer party, hot weather: Water slide (Big Wave Dual Lane is our top seller for a reason)
- 5Cold weather or indoor: Indoor-sized bouncer or obstacle course
What we handle vs. what you handle
We handle delivery, setup, anchoring, the safety walkthrough, and teardown. You handle adult supervision during the event. That's it. Setup typically takes 30–45 minutes and we aim to arrive 60–90 minutes before your event start.
